How are the Moon's craters created

The Moon is constantly bombed by meteorites. Has no atmosphere to slow down or burn them, They therefore hit it with full speed, creating craters that remain for billions of years. In contrast to the land, where they disappear from erosion, The Moon maintains a 'stone file' of the Solar System History. Each impact shakes its surface, scatters dust in the outer and reminds us of the dangers awaiting future astronauts.
