Two Iberian lynxes in an unusual duel

Because of the high risk of serious injury during a fight and all the potential life-threatening problems that injury can cause in the wild (especially for predators that have to actively hunt prey), most animals have evolved ritual displays of power along with alternative less violent fighting behaviors. Winning a land battle is meaningless if you die of infection 2 months later.

These alternate fights usually allow opponents to better assess each other and determine a winner through an alternate duel, without resorting to more violent means, something that is essentially benefits everyone. Only if these demonstrations fail and no opponent backs down, the conflict escalates into a real battle, and this video is a very good example.
