Frozen fish comes alive

Can fish and other aquatic creatures really survive in a state of suspended animation until spring? The surprising answer is yes, sometimes. It is true that some fish can spend the winter frozen in ice and come out swimming once the ice melts.
Some fish contain a kind of antifreeze substance that allows them to survive very cold conditions.
Much like bears and other hibernating animals, some ice-bound fish are able to shut down basic bodily functions, slow their metabolism, and enter a dormant state.
It has been reported that researchers had successfully revived microscopic creatures that had been kept frozen for 30 years.

After attempting to reach the dog with a 30 ft ladder, Anthony Miller and I got the kayak from my garage and returned to the pond. Anthony got in the kayak and scooted along the ice until he reached the dog, Atlas, who was in distress and near complete exhaustion from trying to get out. Anthony used a noose from Animal Control to get the dog and drag him to the edge. He was placed in an emergency vehicle and given oxygen and warm blankets. After seizing several times, they tried to transport him to a nearby animal hospital. He stopped breathing twice and was given chest compressions by paramedics. When he arrived his temperature was so low it wouldn't even register on the thermometer. Under great care, Atlas made a full recovery and was reunited with his owner who had been desperately looking for him
- Rescue a dog in a frozen lake Harlem-Roscoe firefighters were dispatched to a call on the Legends Lake in Roscoe for a man on the ice trying to rescue his dog that had fallen through thin ice into the lake on Dec. 11, 2017. It seems the dog's owner found his dog in the water and tried using a kayak on the ice to get to him. About half way out he broke through the ice himself and was now in the water. First in units arrived on scene and Lt. Justin Mayton donned a cold water suit and firefighters secured him to a safety rope. He then headed out onto the ice with a second Kayak that was on scene. He reached the owner of the dog and the dog's owner was able to climb into the kayak. Mayton was then able to reach the dog and he and the dog were pulled back to the shore by the firefighters on the shore. A rope was also then thrown to the owner in the Kayak and he was pulled safely to the shore. The dog and the owner were warmed up in the ambulance and taken home.

Here she gets a little kick if she'll jump up. But Kasper think it's fun to play with the dog. - It is not something we have trained it to. From puppy Monza always run down to the horses standing just outside our garden. Both pony and she is playful by nature, so that they came together, says Ulla Krab to TV SYD.
- Why no aquarium has a great white shark There are several aquariums around the world, including one in Georgia, that house whale sharks, the biggest fish in the sea. But not one has a great white shark on display. Aquariums have made dozens of attempts since the 1970s to display a captive great white shark. Most of those attempts ended with dead sharks. By the 2000s, the only group still trying was the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which spent a decade planning its white shark program. In 2004, it acquired a shark that became the first great white to survive in captivity for more than 16 days. In fact, it was on display for more than six months before it was released back into the ocean. In the following years, the Monterey Bay Aquarium hosted five more juvenile white sharks for temporary stays before ending the program in 2011. It was an expensive effort and had come under criticism due to injuries that some of the sharks developed in the tank. Responding to those critics, Jon Hoech, the aquarium's director of husbandry operations, said: "We believe strongly that putting people face to face with live animals like this is very significant in inspiring ocean conservation and connecting people to the ocean environment. We feel like white sharks face a significant threats out in the wild and our ability to bring awareness to that is significant in terms of encouraging people to become ocean stewards."
