Head-on collision of a car with a cyclist

The road is a one-way 90km/h linking the local beauty spot ‘Goyt Valley’ to the ‘Cat and Fiddle’ (one of the most dangerous roads in the UK). The car is an imported Mazda MX5. The cyclist passed 2 access prohibition signs and continued his descent on the wrong side of the road. The car was traveling at about 50km/h around the bend. The estimated speed of the cyclist was approximately 65 km/h.

The cyclist stood up immediately after the impact and walked around the car before sitting down at the side of the road. The driver called the ambulance due to the cyclist’s lower back pain and confusion shortly afterwards. Amazingly, no bones were broken and the cyclist was released from hospital 6 hours later.
