Laser welding of metals

In thermal conductivity welding, the laser beam melts the surface of the metal. The molten metals flow together and the solidified melt permanently binds the material. In terms of quality, speed and economy, Laser welding systems are superior to conventional processes for industrial use.

The rails are welded together for several kilometers, and then heated to a high temperature to fully expand. Rail fasteners use very high clamping force, and so the contraction is much less. A second technique is the expansion joint, which may be different: it is no longer a mere gap, but a smooth joint where the two rails are side by side and when they grow or shrink in length they can slide next to each other.

- Electric arc furnace The electric arc furnace is a huge refractory boiler in which metals from three huge graphite electrodes are melted. You can also see in the video a cooling system that constantly sprays water on the surface of the electrodes. The smelting furnace is used for smelting scrap and ore. Its biggest disadvantage is the huge energy consumption and electric melting is efficient only when carried out on a large scale. The theoretical amount of energy required to melt 1 ton of waste is 300 kWh.
- Tungsten arc welding This is a TIG welding (ή GTAW), using a tungsten electrode and argon gas. The electrode together with the weld metal form an electrical circuit, and an electric arc is created at the point of welding. In this welding method the arc melts the welded metal, and not the electrode. Argon gas comes out of the welding gun, and is used to protect molten metal from oxidation.

- How a hydrofoil moves The Hydrofoil or commercially called flying dolphin, or hydrophilic, is a type of ship that uses fins under its hull called water slides. The boat in the video is a Boeing 929, which moves to the island of Tanegashima in Japan.

So, a screw can be caught with more bends in the metal and the link to become much stronger. The friction drill bits manufactured from tungsten carbide, a material 3 times stronger than steel.
