Apple uses spite to force planned obsolescence. Watch $750 tier 4 repair performed with $2 in parts.

At the Apple store, this is a tier 4 repair which is $750. I am going to perform this repair with $2 of parts on camera live so you can see for yourself just what nonsense it is that Apple goes above and beyond to keep independent service centers from repairing their products.

I will discuss the challenges we face and show you specific examples, and show you how those challenges negatively affect our ability to offer a better value to the consumer.

My store is located in one of the most expensive geographic areas of the United States. Taking this into consideration, we are still half the price of Apple tier 4 repair for this particular machine.

I respect the free market and I respect other repair center’s right to charge less if they wish. I WANT to see more out there performing this work so that consumers have a choice other than being bent over at the Genius bar or throwing away their devices. This starts with the manufacturers not going out of their way to spite the independent service center.
