Small plane crashes in an electricity pylon Sunday, November 27, 2022 in Gaithersburg, Maryland, a Mooney M20J single-engine passenger plane crashed into an electricity pylon, thus remaining embedded in the metal structure nearly 30 meters above the ground. - SpotMini Autonomous Navigation SpotMini autonomously navigates a specified route through an office and lab facility. Before the test, the robot is manually driven through the space so it can build a map of the space using visual data from cameras mounted on the front, back and sides of the robot. During the autonomous run, SpotMini uses data from the cameras to localize itself in the map and to detect and avoid obstacles. Once the operator presses 'GO' at the beginning of the video, the robot is on its own. Total walk time for this route is just over 6 minutes. (The QR codes visible in the video are used to measure performance, not for navigation.)

Ditching expensive and complex software programs and sensors, Manikandan says his G2 prototype uses battery-powered pressurized air-chambers that help the giant robot move about and lift up to 150 kilograms. Developed with help from college authorities and students, the G2 uses a pneumatic compressor unit - or pressurized-air chamber system - and a control unit which combine to make the prototype workable.
The team of students designed and built the frame with local support.
Manikandan believes his robot can potentially be used in the military and industrial sectors which require the lifting and moving of heavy materials.
Though not as sleek as similar products on the market, like the recently unveiled range of exoskeleton suits by Panasonic, the G2 has one big advantage.
It cost just US$750 to build the prototype.

We've got a really entertaining video tonight. It seems that for a recent auto show, Kia Motors Corporation developed quite a display piece: a fully transforming vehicle! The SUV is seen to split its panels and (very) slowly rise to a standing posture. The "vehicle mode" is of course just an SUV shell around the movable frame, but it's interesting how the final result bears more than a little resemblance to early Diaclone car robot designs.
