The beautiful colors of the deadly poisonous blue coral snake (Calliophis bivirgata)

Calliophis bivirgata is an exceptionally colored venomous snake native to Southeast Asia. Its body is dark blue to black with bright blue lateral stripes and a contrasting red head and tail – this warning coloration serves as a warning of its venomous nature.

This snake is among the most venomous land snakes in the world. Its venom contains potent neurotoxins that can paralyze the nervous system and cause respiratory failure. Interestingly, despite its strength, it is very shy and rarely attacks – a bite on a human is exceptional, but potentially fatal.
