The average adult’s reaction time to a visual stimulus is around 250 milliseconds (a quarter of a second). Children tend to have a slightly longer reaction time – often 300–350 ms, because their nervous system and motor coordination are still developing. The fastest individuals – for example, top athletes or e-sports players – can get below 200 ms, in extreme cases up to 120–150 ms with specific training and anticipation of the stimulus.
