Tesla Optimus: a robot that sweeps, mixes food, and assembles

Tesla Optimus is a humanoid robot whose development has progressed significantly in 2025. It has evolved from an original concept into a functional prototype that can independently perform several practical tasks. In the home, it can already sweep, vacuum, mix food, open cabinets, or close curtains. It performs these tasks using a neural network that learns from videos of real people at work. Thanks to this, it can adapt without the need to program each task separately.

In addition to household tasks, Optimus also has significant industrial applications. Tesla plans to deploy more than a thousand of these robots in its own factories by the end of 2025, where they will assist in the assembly of components and material handling. Physically, the robot is equipped with 40 electromechanical actuators and has hands with 22 degrees of freedom, which allows it to perform fine and precise movements – for example, to manipulate fragile objects.

Elon Musk calls the Optimus project Tesla’s most important product, with the ambition to produce tens of thousands of units per year. By 2026, production should increase to 50,000 robots per year, and in the future, production is expected to reach millions. The expected price of one robot is between $20,000 and $30,000, which could make it accessible to ordinary households, not just for corporate use.
