On February 5, 2025, at approximately 5:20 p.m., a police officer was on patrol near the intersection of Strasburg Road and Block Line Road in Kitchener when his automatic license plate recognition technology alerted him to a driver with a suspended license.
The driver attempted to flee, ran a red light and collided with another vehicle. He then exited his vehicle and attempted to attack the officer, who used a taser on him, but to no avail. The man returned to his vehicle, pulled out an axe and attempted to attack the officer. After reinforcements arrived, he was tasered again, leading to an arrest.
The 27-year-old Kitchener man was charged with assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and other related offences.
