Based on owning a couple of these spiders so far, the female adumbratus abdomens seem to have considerable variation from spider to spider in patterning, hue, and color intensity/saturation, whereas the males have all been more or less homogenous. This spider is also gravid now, and it will be interesting to see what traits her offspring inherit.

I do not support keeping wild animals as a pets, but this was special situation. The baby deer was healed and released back to her real mother.

So my solution was to build a large basket like enclosure to protect the growing vine. 13 wooden stakes were hammered into the ground (an odd number being important in any weaving project) and lawyer cane harvested from the forest was woven between these uprights. The basket was about 1 m in diameter and about 75 cm high.
