The human calculator

The child prodigy of mental calculations Aaryan Shukla from India, demonstrates “Flash Anzan” to an audience. On the screen behind him, 50 five-digit numbers appear in rapid succession and he must add them mentally.

After the last number appears, Aaryan announces the result: 2.384.076. He enters his answer into the Mega Mental Arithmetic software, which immediately confirms that it is correct.

Flash Anzan is an exercise in mental calculation discipline derived from the practice of the Japanese abacus: the numbers appear very quickly, one after another, and the participant adds them mentally. Aaryan Shukla is one of the world's leading experts in this field. He was the winner of the 2022 and 2024 Mental Computation World Cup.

This performance is not his personal best. In February 2024, at the age of 13, set a Guinness World Record by adding 50 five-digit numbers to 25,19 seconds. In December of the same year, in Dubai, further improved his performance by setting six Guinness World Records for mental calculations in a single day.
