On Sunday, August 2, 2026, two firefighting helicopters collided mid-air while fighting a large forest fire near Psatha, west of Athens, in the Corinthian Gulf.

Video from the ground shows the two aircraft approaching each other at dangerous speed before the collision. One of the helicopters crashed into the ground, while the other managed to make an emergency landing.

The two crew members of the crashed helicopter, a Greek pilot and a Danish co-pilot, they were found unconscious and later pronounced dead at the hospital. The two occupants of the second aircraft escaped the crash unharmed.
