Cleaning lady vs baboon

In Simon's Town, South Africa, a cleaning lady had to intervene when a baboon entered a house and stole some fruit. The video shows the mammal running off with its loot – two bananas and an apple – while the woman, armed only with a sail, to chase him.

This scene is not at all unusual in this coastal town near Table Mountain National Park. Simon's town is known for its large population of chakma baboons, who live in close proximity to the residents. Attracted by readily available food, these monkeys do not hesitate to enter houses, to open windows, to search kitchens or even empty refrigerators. Local authorities employ teams tasked with keeping the animals away from residential areas, but invasions remain frequent.

Coexistence between residents and baboons has become a real topic of discussion in the area. Some locals report property damage and food theft, while others advocate an approach that promotes coexistence with this iconic species of the Cape Peninsula.
