A strong magnitude 7 earthquake,4 Richter struck the east coast of Mindanao in the Philippines on October 10, 2025. The epicenter was located approximately near the town of Manay in the province of Davao Oriental, in the sea about a few tens of kilometers from the coast, and tremors occurred at 9:43 local time.
Tremors were felt across much of the southern Philippines and damaged homes, schools, bridges and other infrastructure. Authorities issued a tsunami warning shortly after the earthquake, but later they canceled it. According to the available data, the disaster claimed several lives and injured more than a thousand, while tens of thousands of people suffered damage to their homes and power outages. Later, followed by a strong aftershock of magnitude 6,7-6,8 Richter, which experts described as a so-called 'double' earthquake in the same area.
An earthquake of about 7 magnitude,4 Richter is considered very strong. Such a force can cause serious damage to buildings, landslides, cracks in roads or bridges and power outages. In coastal areas, it can also cause a tsunami, especially if it is created under the seabed.
